    The former Deputy Assistant Secretary and Acting CIO for the Department of Treasury, Mayi Canales joined Tech Talk to share her experiences with e-government programs. Mayi also discussed CIO Council efforts in employee training and retention, enterprise architecture, and cyber security. Mayi's efforts at streamlining e-government through realignment and outsourcing have been very effective. She sought to make the business case first for all new initiatives.

    Mayi is a founding partner of M2 Strategies, a private consulting firm designed to help state, local, and Federal government agencies develop effective e-government strategies, as well as, to assist private sector companies become more effective at addressing e-government challenges.

  •   Creating Performance Based Electronic Government--Fiscal Year 2002 Progress examines performance of current electronic government initiatives. This 104-page CIO Council report commends recent government cost efficiencies and improved program performance, but calls for more rigorous use of empirical data to measure performance outcomes as a business case.
