Podcasting Overview
Podcasting is the syndication of sound and video files over the Internet. It was invented in 2001 by Adam Curry and Dave Winer and became popular in 2004. This technique was initially used to deliver content to Apple iPod players. The term comes from the combination of the words iPod and Broadcasting. It is now applied to the distribution of all types of files for any type of player or viewer.

The podcast feed is a file located on a web server. It lists the name, location, and description of files ready for distribution. The Tech Talk Radio podcast feed uses the RSS (Really Simple Syndication) format. This feed is read by an RSS reader. You can see the Tech Talk Radio podcast feed by clicking here.

Podcast Browsers
Here are the two browsers with RSS Readers. Using one of these browsers is the easiest way to get podcast feeds.

Podcasting Advantages
Before podcasting, you waited for the file to download and then played it. With podcasting, you don't have to wait for the download. After you have subscribed to a Podcast feed, your reader will periodically check for new content. The new content will then be automatically downloaded, probably at night when you are asleep. You are notified when new files arrive. You can play the files without a download delay.
