| The
incorporation of computer technology into business has evolved dramatically
over the past thirty years. Its deployment has been influenced by a series
of separate but related events in computer technology, telecommunications,
business, and economics. The invention of the integrated circuit and CPU made desktop computers affordable. The standardization of computer packet-switching communications using TCP/IP facilitated computer networking and resource sharing. At the same time, telecommunications systems evolved from the first circuit-switching systems to the deployment of ATM packet-switching networks. The combination of computer networking and telecommunications technology lead directly to the invention of the Internet. Within the last ten years, many businesses have leveraged these technologies using distributed databases and web service platforms to streamline operations from the customer to the supplier. In the past three years, economic factors have strained information system budgets as overly optimistic infrastructure investments have not generated the expected revenue. In this presentation, we explore the impact of these wide ranging events on current and future employment patterns. If you are looking for a job, thinking about your future, or planning to update your skills, this seminar is for you. |
