Stratford University Awards $15,000 Cyber Security Scholarship

Stratford University has named U.S. Army Specialist Shadira Lamby of San Antonio, TX as the winner of its 40th Anniversary Commemorative Scholarship Competition in Cyber Security. This one-time $15,000 scholarship was created to support students seeking a Bachelor’s degree in IT with a Cyber Security concentration, or a Master’s in Cyber Security.

Specialist Lamby has served in the U.S. Army in various positions in the Intelligence arena, and is now looking to solidify her experience and pursue her passions to defend her country with a Master’s in Cyber Security.

As a servicemember working in the intelligence arena, Shadira describes herself as someone who has always been drawn to accepting a challenge—but now sees that attraction as a calling to a bigger picture. “My ultimate goal is to help instill hope back into American people and bring a sense that there’s nothing to fear from the horrific threat of cyber attacks that affect us all,” notes Lamby. “The reality of cyber attacks is that it ultimately brings worldwide threats and menacing hazards right home to every one us—you don’t have to be on a battlefield—this is something that impacts us all.”

The first in her family to wear the uniform, Lamby credits her success to a strong work ethic and an abiding sense of patience to be part of the big picture rather than always seeing the finished product. “Sometimes even the most minor discoveries or connections can lead to big results, she comments. “What’s truly rewarding for me is to know I played a part in successful outcomes by never giving up.”

Shadira is also actively involved in Big Brother/Big Sister volunteer programs and area food banks, seeing these efforts as vital opportunities to promote leadership, resilience, and confidence among less advantaged communities.

Lamby will pursue her Master’s course work in Cyber Security by way of online. Stratford thanks all of those who competed in this Scholarship effort. For more details about Stratford University’s Cyber program, please visit www.stratford.edu/cyber.
